Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin; Schumann: Fantasie, Op. 17; Mussorgsky: Bilder einer Ausstelkung / Alexis Weissenberg, piano. Salzburg Festival 1972

Notes & Reviews:

Weissenberg made his breakthrough in Salzburg during the Karajan era with his 1972 solo recital. His evening began with Tombeau de Couperin, played transparently and with a highly flexible touch. Pictures at an Exhibition ended the "official" part of his recital, though many surprising encores followed - all of which can be heard on these two CDs.
