Notes & Reviews:
After some initial criticism Respighi's Marie Victoire has gone on to be hailed as one of the most important productions during Kirsten Harms's tenure at the German Opera of Berlin and as a beacon in the Berlin opera history of the first decade of the 20th century. This 4th of Respighi's total of 10 operas was composed during 1912-13.
BBC Music Magazine, March 2013
Michail Jurowski marshals his forces with conviction, and Takesha Meshe Kizart seizes all the opportunies of the title-role to sing with velvet-toned warmth.
American Record Guide, March / April 2013
Her rich, powerful voice is thrilling in its intensity, musically and dramatically. It's a good thing that the opera company has cast the role so well. This is Kizart's show. The rest of the huge cast is just along for the ride, performing their functions adequately. Orchestra and chorus back up Kizart with plenty of power and ringing sonority. A French-English and German libretto is included.
