Notes & Reviews:

One of the greatest composers of the Baroque era, George Frideric Handel was born in Germany but spent most of his career living in London. He was something of a celebrity in his day - a status he enjoyed thanks to his prolific cultivation of opera.

American Record Guide, May/June 2013
The program, then, is a kind of brain-teaser. Certainly any collector of Handel's cantatas - and the recordings are really piling up - will want to investigate this release. The performances are excellent. Varriale is a high soprano with power, projection, and precision - allowing for just a little metalic edge in the top range. Crisculo and his seven other players supply energetic support, challenging the singer with pungent period-instrument color.
