Notes & Reviews:

Ramón Ortega Quero studied with Miguel Quirós early on at the conservatory in his native Granada. He became a member of the Andalusian Youth Orchestra at the age of 12. In 2003, conductor Daniel Barenboim accepted Ramón as a member of the East-West Divan Orchestra. Gregor Witt, Principal Oboe of Barenboim's Berliner Staatskapelle, took the gifted young man under his wing and acted as his mentor. Ramón won first prize at the ARD Music Competition in 2007. Since 2008, he is the principal oboe of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under conductor Mariss Jansons. In 2011 he was named the ECHO KLASSIK "Young Artist of the Year".

American Record Guide, May/June 2013
I like how this young oboist is maturing. After two fine recordings of Baroque music, he has finally plunged into the depths of the wonderful romantic oboe repertoire. Many oboists, and other wind players for that matter, want to put their mark on works like the two beautiful Schumann pieces, the Schubert Impromptus, and especially pieces by Pasculli or Kalliwoda. He has embodied their spirit well, as has his accompanist, Kateryna Titova. The listener will sense the understanding they share. Most important, it is apparent they share an understanding of balance in the music, not only in terms of the shape of the pieces but in texture and dynamic. One thing sure to satisfy the attentive listener is Quero's finely-tuned technique and expressiveness. This is a very satisfying recording, especially if you feel a need to fill your soul with music of poetic solemnity like Schumann or Tchaikovsky - or that you want to be thrilled by the virtuosity of works by Pasculli and Kalliwoda.
