Notes & Reviews:

This is the fourth volume in the complete recording of Schumann's solo piano music, with booklet notes written by scholar Joachim Draheim. Florian Uhlig made his orchestral debut at the Barbican in London in 1997. Since then he has appeared with orchestras such as the BC Symphony Orchestra, Munich Symphony Orchestra, and Vienna Chamber Orchestra.

The Guardian, 29th November 2012
Uhlig has already shown that he is a perceptive Schumann interpreter, but his playing here, especially in the extrovert Faschingsschwank pieces, can seem a little staid and monochrome.

American Record Guide, March / April 2013
Volume 4 of Uhlig's effort to record all of Schumann's works for piano presents pieces composed during a brief half-year in Vienna. This project includes fragmentary and unpublished works as well as the canon. Uhlig's Schumann is intelligent and controlled, and his interpretive strengths, supplemented by his smooth touch, lie towards grace and lyricism. He approaches the smaller pieces of the program with breathtaking attentiveness. I admire the delicate wistfulness he brings to the Arabeske. Second piece of Drei Stucklein is marked by proper pacing and dynamics. While his Faschingsschwank aus Wien is astounding for its technical precision and clarity. Still, his Humoreske is poignant and sensitive, and he milks the songful moments for all they are worth. The sound quality is pristine, and the extensive program notes are in German and English. Despite my desire for more dramatic nuance, I appreciate his thoughtfulness and care, and shall be looking forward to hearing the rest of his project.
