Notes & Reviews:
Ms. Thomas - one of the world's leading operatic sopranos - offers here a selection of our most beloved spirituals that may well even eclipse the legendary recordings of contralto Marian Anderson. Indra brings to them levels of sheer vocal beauty, intense emotional power and sacred sincerity that you may well have never heard in solo spirituals before ... not to mention the full force of her African-American stylistic heritage.

Not quite Christmas, but some idea of spirituality experienced many honors with Louis Armstrong, The Good Book and the inevitable Mahalia Jackson. On a bare and without a net, the young soprano Indra Thomas, accompanied by pianist Sandra Luthers, discusses important passages of the Bible with accuracy and nuance. Without pressing too hard on the note or voice is required in contemplation Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child, Joshua Fit The Battle of Jericho, Were you There and Great Day, the flagship piece. Nice discovery.
