Notes & Reviews:
The six concerto gems on the eighth and last CD of our complete recording of Telemann's wind concertos once again display a great many different ensemble groupings (and often unusual ones), concerto procedures, and forms as well as some broadly dimensioned works.
International Record Review, December 2012
[Soloists] are well up the the task and play not only with technical assurance but also with pleasing sensibility...This is a fitting end to an immensely worthwhile series.
American Record Guide, March / April 2013
As the series progresses, one continues to be amazed at Telemann's endless resourcefulness in exploiting the qualities of different wind instruments. He was an early champion of chalumeaux, and especially of the bassoon. The C-major Concerto here is remarkable in its use of two bassoons as quasi-ripieni against the two official soloists. Only Handel (as in Alexander's Feast, or one of his organ concertos) could match Telemann in displaying the possibilities of bassoon sound. There are two groups involved in these performances. Using the pungent colors of period instruments, they realize every coloristic possibility in this lively set of works.
