Performers Composer

Notes & Reviews:

A unique coupling of chamber works from the German Romantic composer Eduard Franck currently undergoing a small revival after decades of neglect. This is finely crafted music inspired by Mendelssohn and Schumann.

American Record Guide, May/June 2013
The Cello Sonata, Op. 42 in F, Franck's second, like the Trio, demonstrates the composer's committed craftsmanship - impeccable balance between the two instruments, symmetrical phrases, and overall refinement of structure. The second of the composer's four violin sonatas, Op. 23 in A, like the Trio, shows tasteful and masterly command of the language of Schumann and Mendelssohn while, especially in II, introducing chromatic harmonies and unexpected modulations. There is much to enjoy in this elegantly crafted music; and these musicians, with the especially superb playing of James Tocco, make a strong case for the Franck revival.
