Notes & Reviews:

For its first commercial recording, the Almeda Trio takes the traditional classical music ensemble of piano, violin and cello on a journey through various styles of more modern inspiration - from Argentinian tango to American jazz - and even country fiddling. Stops along the way include two works by American composers Paul Schoenfield and Paul Ferguson and a composition by the 20th-Century beloved Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. Since its debut in 2008, the Almeda Trio (Robert Cassidy, piano, Cara Tweed, violin, Ida Mercer, cello) has performed to enthusiastic audiences throughout the greater Cleveland area and beyond. They serve as the ensemble-in-residence at The Music Settlement in Cleveland and their mission is three-fold - performance, education and outreach. The ensemble takes its name from the early 20th-century social activist and founder of The Music Settlement, Almeda Adams.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Paul Ferguson's Solstice Suite is chromatic and riff-driven, including what sounds like a quote of the "James Bond" motive in the first movement. Titles of movements like 'Soul Stuff' and 'Gently Not' give an accurate picture of a rocking, swinging, and showy piece that I suspect is more fun to play. Paul Schoenfield's Cafe Music is similar Schoenfield describes his own piece in the liner notes as "high-class dinner music that might just barely find its way into a concert hall". Astor Piazzolla's Cuatro Estaciones Porte±as is the highlight, with a movement for each of the four seasons (yes, like Vivaldi). 'Primavera' (Spring) is lyrical and delicate with Piazzolla's typically Argentinean-inflected. Each is tastefully balanced and carefully crafted, the work of a mature composer. Fans of Piazzolla will enjoy having this recording of the arrangement for piano trio by the composer's friend Jose Bragato. Schoenfield, they sound at home with the more serious Piazzolla.
