David Philip Hefti is the young rising star of the newest generation of composers, and the four string quartets written by him to date confirm this status. It is exhilarating to hear just what new colors Hefti is able to obtain from this traditional ensemble.

The members of the Leipzig String Quartet perform the challenging scores with breathless virtuosity, probing all the sound regions on both sides of the bridge. The composer also found their approach convincing and dedicated two of these works to the Leipzig String Quartet.
