Album Summary
Ensemble ComposerNotes & Reviews:
Arnold Mendelssohn's is the 2nd second cousin of Felix Mendelssohn and became best known as a composer of lieder. His sacred choral works launched the renewal of Lutheran church music. The German music encyclopedia MGG calls him "one of the most prominent figures of his day, a musician and man of great breadth of vision."
The Guardian, 17th January 2013
This well-made music is essentially late Romantic in style, with just occasional passages in which the harmonies loosen their grip on tonality, such as Reger or early Schoenberg...these performances by the Reinhold Quartet show that both works are worth hearing.
