Notes & Reviews:
This program completes Testament's series of reissues of recordings made for EMI featuring the fabled Hungarian violinist Johanna Martzy. In addition to Martzy's rare technical and interpretive mastery, the concertos by Mendelssohn and Mozart on this disc display her unique coloristic expressiveness, delivered with such precision and discretion that each phrase became a tiny, and rich, world of its own. As an added bonus, these are two of the earliest recordings made by the great German musician Wolfgang Sawallisch, a master accompanist as both pianist and conductor, as well as a profound interpreter of the symphonic literature. Both concertos are receiving their world première European and American releases.
