Notes & Reviews:

Richard Strauss wrote two of the loveliest horn concertos in music history, in which he exploited all the instrument's capabilities, from cantabile through hunting calls to passages of great virtuosity. In his Serenade Benjamin Britten uses the horn's magical sound to conjure up an atmosphere of romantic longing for endlessness. With this work he established his reputation as one of the outstanding composers of his generation.
