Notes & Reviews:

Ronald Corp leads the New London Orchestra and New London Children's Choir in a thoroughly delightful, two-disc sampler of music by the English composer Michael Hurd. Violinist Lorraine McAslan is the soloist in the Sinfonia Concertante and oboist Nicholas Daniel is featured in the Concerto da Camera. The set also features four light-hearted compositions for large children's choir with orchestral accompaniment.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
This is a delightful collection of symphonic and choral pieces by British composer Michael Hurd. Bearing marks of such influences as Prokofieff, Copland, Grainger, and a few other 20th Century contemporaries, his orchestral music is immensely enjoyable to listen to. He was a great melodist and orchestrator. Hurd's style touches on nearly all the most beautiful pairings, and his harmonic structures often turn quickly on chromatic pivots. The musicians of the New London Orchestra, as well as solo oboist Nicholas Daniels (who can be heard on a release of Thea Musgrave's music reviewed in this issue) and violinist Lorraine McAslan play the music affectionately. The performances are warm and inviting, and the musicians play with beautiful tone and phrasing. This was my first encounter with Michael Hurd's music; it is highly accessible, and I hope that more perform it in the future.
