Volume 9, released in 2006, has performances by several Harrisburg PA-area ensembles. Results in a good general sound. The Messiah College Wind Ensemble does a good job with five of the pieces; I especially enjoyed the Fanfare for Brass & Timpani and 'March on a Russian Hymnsong' (with a melody Tchaikovsky used at the end of the 1812 Overture). The Greater Harrisburg Concert Band is heard in the four-movement One Day, In a Small Town (composed in honor of the band director in Fayette MO), 'On a Childhood Sunday Song' (the tune is both a hymn and the Civil War marching song 'Tramp, Tramp, Tramp'), and 'The Chase' (commemorating the escape of 1000 Cherokees during their tribe's removal from the Eastern US in 1839). The album also includes two wedding marches, performed with fine ensemble and blend by the Messiah College Faculty Brass. Its first trumpet is William Stowman, who also conducts both of these bands. The other brass players are trumpeter Melanie Miller, horn player Jeremy Buss, trombonist James Ryon, and tubist Eric Henry.
