Album Notes

Missing more than a handful of their hit ballads, Romances is hardly the perfect Mazz set, but there is the budget price to consider, along with the passionate, timeless performances of vocalist Joe López. Of course, the first band to put synthesizers into tejano music -- startling at the time -- suffers the side effects of such experimentation, meaning some of the cuts here are identifiably "'80s" and a touch "dated." Still, with "Sabes," "Tu Cuerpo," and "Si Vuelves" all included, this one is worth adding to your Valentine's shopping list. ~ David Jeffries
