Album Remarks & Appraisals:

Audiophile Audition
Sanchez is a storyteller and there is a tale behind most of his latest tunes. Sanchez says "New Life" signifies his new life as composer and bandleader. It's a given that "New Life" correspondingly looks ahead to Sanchez's impending marriage and the strong possibility of parenthood. Anyone who wants a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the New Life sessions should view a short video which shows the recording process.

The Jazz Times
The tunes, which reflect Sanchez's drumming with their taut strength and eruptive power, give two of jazz's hottest saxophonists, altoist David Binney and tenorist Donny McCaslin, all they can handle: soaring melodies, rich harmonies, clever structures, meaty unison parts.

There's something compelling and unique about Antonio Sanchez's work. His compositions provide just the right combination of power and grace, improvisation and serious composition.

Drummer/vocalist Antonio Sanchez's third solo album is a forward-thinking collection of jazz originals that features an all-star group of musicians. Backing Sanchez here are saxophonists David Binney and Donny McCaslin, pianist/Fender Rhodes player John Escreet, and bassist Matt Brewer, as well as vocalist Thana Alexa. Sanchez's music often walks the line between layered, atmospheric contemporary jazz and more aggressive, avant-garde-leaning group improvisation.
