Notes & Reviews:

For the 50th anniversary celebration of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s founding, the orchestra in 1939 asked Zoltan Kodaly to compose a new orchestral work; the resulting Concerto For Orchestra was premiered in 1941 under then conductor Frederic Stock. Dedicated to the memory of Arturo Toscanini, Kodaly’s three-movement Symphony was first performed by the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under Ferenc Fricsay in 1961. Summer Evening (1906; rev. 1928) reveals early hints of the folk music gathered during his first collecting trips, which inspired and infused much of his later output.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
These are all fine performances, recorded well and played by the Miskolc Symphony with panache in the winds and brass and dark, rich color in the strings. Miskolc is a city of 169,000 in northeastern Hungary. Despite its size, it appears to be the home of a good orchestra that is very much at home in Kodaly's idiom. Kodaly aficionados will want all three works on this disc, and it is a fine way to acquire them. The only other way to get them in one purchase is to buy Antal Dorati's complete analog era set of Kodaly's orchestral pieces with the Philharmonia Hungarica (Decca).
