Meyerbeer: Robert le Diable / Bryan Hymel; Carmen Giannattasio; Patrizia Ciofi; Alastair Miles

Album Summary

>Meyerbeer, Giacomo : Robert le Diable
Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Renowned German composer Giacomo Meyerbeer was considered the father of the Grand Opéra thanks to his skilful combination of elements of both the German and Italian opera traditions. He finally hit the jackpot with his opera Il crociato in Egitto, and later became one of the most respected opera composers of the era.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Robert le Diable was the first of Meyerbeer's French grand operas. Its story is, in time-honored operatic fashion. Oren's conducting is quite lively. He really seems to have great sympathy for the opera, even the silly Nuns' Bacchanale in Act 2. The sound is remarkably good. Brilliant's asking price is ridiculously low, and the performance is pretty good, so I recommend this.
