Album Summary

Performers Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Asher Fisch directs the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in an exciting rendition of Rossini's Stabat Mater. Combining both sacred and profane music, this choral masterpiece is endowed with a human dimension that is often lacking in distinctly religious works. Recorded live at Tel Aviv University's Smolarz Auditorium in June 2012, the recording's terrific cast includes soprano Serena Farnocchia, mezzo-soprano Ronat Shaham, tenor Cosmin Ifrim and bass Simon Orfila.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Of the Israel Philharmonic releases from Helicon that have crossed my path, this is the best by far. A robust, spirited and still respectful approach to Rossini's delightful writing, this is worth considering. The IPO sounds terrific, and the recording is superb. Choral singing is pretty good too. I like the soprano and mezzo. I admire the gleam in this tenor's voice. An enjoyable account of an elusive piece is always worth acknowledging, and I'm pleased to do so here.
