British organist/composer Clifford Harker (1912-1999) became organist of Bristol Cathedral in 1949 after returning from war service. He remained there for 34 years and founded the Bristol Cathedral Concert Choir. After his retirement from the cathedral, he became organist of the Lord Mayor's Chapel, a post he held until ill-health forced him to retire.
