Notes & Reviews:

Eric Plutz is university organist and organ instructor at Princeton University. This is his third recording on the Pro Organo label, performing on the organ at St. John's Cathedral in Denver, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of its building.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
As you can see, Eric Plutz's selection covers a wide range of styles, all the better to display the wide. He was assistant organist at the Cathedral in the early 90s. It's an appropriately thoughtful program; careful consideration was given to instrument's fantastic solo and ensemble voices. Without doubt, 'Come Sweet Death' is my favorite. This instrument's swell chamber smoothly facilitates the piece's elongated crescendo and decrescendo, and Mr Plutz closes the work with the Kimball's sweet and lyrical Great Gemshorn accompanied by the otherworldly Aeoline Celeste. Mr Plutz takes this opportunity to reveal the Kimball's unique and earth-shaking 32-foot Waldhorn at the very end. Gerald Near's Saraband on 'Land of Rest' gives us the Kimball's glorious solo reeds - Clarinet, Gamba Celeste, and English Horn. What is particularly striking about this organ are its beautifully-voiced solo reeds and palpable. I am convinced that he understands, as would a great orchestrator, how to register the more orchestral side of the instrument, giving as much thought to the accompaniment as to the solos.
