Notes & Reviews:

Gramophone Magazine, May 2013
Arte dei Suonatori play [these pieces] with neatness, clarity and buoyant tone. Their fine ensemble spirit is much in evidence and the music's good-hearted energy draws greater interpretative vim from Martin Gester than did Handel's Op. 6 Concertos on their last collaboration...Yet Gester's approach could hardly be described as playful.

This is an excellent recording and very stylishly presented with informative notes.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Telemann's orchestral works are now a very active field for recording. The aim of this program as suggested by the album title. The choice of works is designed to show off Telemann's delight and skill in "character painting", which he used to highlight different national styles and individual human personality types. An opening Ouverture in D for three oboes, strings, and continuo illustrates Telemann's assimilation of the French-overture-anddance- suite format. The sound is admirably lean and vivid. I love the inclusion in the booklet of a late-17th Century woodcut of a Polish tavern scene.
