Notes & Reviews:

Delos presents world premiere recordings of beautifully crafted fantasies for flute on famous Verdi melodies from Italy's preeminent Romantic-era flute virtuoso, Raffaele Trevisani. This release will entertain not only flute players and fans, but opera buffs as well - not to mention anybody else who gets a thrill from almost superhuman displays of virtuosity!

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
The entire booklet is in English. The flutist and musicologist Gian-Luca Petrucci wrote most of the notes; and in a kind of listener's index that helps very much, the performer has indicated most of the references in each fantasy. The dedications are given, too, and one of these was dedicated to Theobald Boehm, known as the developer of the modern flute. Trevisani has a gorgeous tone. He studied with James Galway and his playing has some similarities to Galway's. Sometimes he uses vibrato that adds sheen to the sound like Galway. And sometimes he's flat in the low register just like Galway - and everyone else, since the flute has this tendency. He has a superb sense for bel canto style - it can be a joy to hear him playing arias - and a masterly command of all the virtuosic difficulties. Girardi is excellent in the accompaniments. A must for flutists. On the back is a delightful picture of the performers before a monument to Verdi.
