Album Remarks & Appraisals:
For this very special collaboration, Ghita Nørby selected six of her favorite fairy tales from the pen of Hans Christian Andersen. The music of Michala Petri and her friends, Chen Yue, Lars Hannibal, Carolin Widmann, Ula Ulijona and Marta Sudbraba provide the perfect atmosphere of enchantment to frame Ghita's voice.

The readings are interspersed with brief musical numbers on recorder, xiao, guitar, violin, viola, and cello. These are a sonatina by Beethoven, a flute quartet by Mozart, a duo by Mauro Giuliani, guitar works by Bach, Sor, and Llobet, and folk tunes. The fragments played on xiao, a Chinese folk flute held like the recorder, sound off in the distance, so they are very evocative. The guitar sound is close. The sonatina by Beethoven is played on recorder and guitar, and the bit we hear from the beginning and end of it is delightful. If you know anyone who speaks the language or whose children are learning Danish...
