Notes & Reviews:
A major part of the Holy Week music cycle, the Lamentations of Jeremiah refer to the prophet's sorrow at the destruction of Jerusalem, which here becomes an allegorical reference to Jesus' crucifixion and death. Given an excellent (3-star) review by the Penguin Guide, the Pro Cantione Antiqua under the direction of Bruno Turner are (as always) superb.
Penguin Guide
The present, fourth setting was discovered only in the 19th Century, and is recorded here complete for the first time... Serene but poignant simplicity which Bruno Turner captures admirably with spacious tempi... The quality of the singing from a group of eight is of a high order. So is the recording.
