Notes & Reviews:
The Leipziger Volkszeitung heralded the performance of the B minor Mass given by Thomanerchor Leipzig at the closing concert of the Bachfest 2006 in St Thomas as "a new, sounding benchmark - for Bach in and from Leipzig." This high-end CD edition is a magnificent recording of the B Minor Mass, frequently referred to as Bach's opus summum, or total work.

Having heard a few recent releases from Biller and his Leipzig forces, I had reason to expect a very fine performance, and my hopes were completely met. Central is the excellent choir of St Thomas Church, about 55 boys and men who sing with fine blend and lots of spirit. The orchestra is a period instrument group with good contributions from brass and solo winds. Biller takes the piece about as fast as it can go with this many singers. All in all this is a very good job.
