Performers Conductor Ensembles Composer

Notes & Reviews:

In 2010 Neeme Järvi began his Scandinavian project, offering up idiomatic performances of Norwegian composers. Similar in approach, this new survey turns to Sweden, with Järvi conducting the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in orchestral works by one of Sweden's leading composers of the twentieth century, Kurt Atterberg.

BBC Music Magazine, May 2013
[The Dollar Symphony] bears hearing today in JSrvi's vigorous reading.

MusicWeb International, April 2013
The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under Neeme JSrvi seems to give a perfect account of these works. I do not know these pieces in any other versions, but the performance here is ravishing and totally persuasive...Kurt Atterberg's music is something of a revelation...an attractive mix that is always well-wrought, sometimes downright moving and always interesting. The only 'negative' is that the music lack[s] challenge.

Gramophone Magazine, June 2013
JSrvi's is the truest and most opulent [Sixth Symphony]...The couplings are equally beguiling...JSrvi's accounts of these at least match their rivals and together comprise an excellent start to the series.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
Chandos does such a good job in sound and production. Of course, it's hard to miss on the sound: the orchestra always sounds wonderful in that hall. There are pictures of orchestra, composer, conductor, even violin and viola soloists. And the front cover is that attractive main canal in Goteborg that I remember so well from my visit there. The orchestra now bears the title, "the National Orchestra of Sweden" - and it deserves it.
