Notes & Reviews:

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez "was born in Mexico City in 1964 and now lives in the New York tundra, where he is Professor of Composition at the Eastman School of Music". He studied with Jacob Druckman, Steven Mackey, and Henri Dutilleux, and has won several awards. Ex Machina, for piano, marimba, and small ensemble, has eight short movements; there is a minimalist influence, and the expected mechanical influence as well. 'Twittering Machine', based on the Paul Klee painting, is the most colorful and dramatic. Diaries is for piano and ensemble, and sounds a bit like Carter to me. It does seem to be intelligently written, and it's very well played and recorded. Notes in English and Spanish.
