Notes & Reviews:

Adler and Friends showcases works by Adler and others, performed by Adler himself and showcases his penchant for both contemporary and traditional concert repertoire. Adler is a Yamaha artist.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Pianist-composer James Adler has compiled a record of compositions and arrangements by himself. Ornstein's Scherzino is very dance-like and cute, with a festive flair that fits well with the Mardi- Gras-themed packaging for the CD. To give you an idea of what Paul Turok's music sounds like, the theme for his Tango for James Adler sounds an awful lot like the Tin Pan Alley song 'Hello, Ma Baby!' Most of Adler's own music is in a kind of casual neo-tonal idiom, with a tendency toward the showy. His piano fantasy on music from Sondheim's Sweeney Todd is his best work on the record. His Liszt, the first Mephisto Waltz, is nicely done. My favorite is the 'Christopher Street Rag' by Seth Bedford. It is in a way the most straightforward piece here. Adler's performance is entertaining and appropriate.
