Notes & Reviews:

A new recording of Beethoven's Missa solemnis by the renowned Gewandhausorchester Leipzig conducted by Herbert Blomstedt.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Blomstedt's is a traditional performance: a large orchestra with modern instruments playing for a good-sized chorus in a concert hall (Leipzig Gewandhaus). And a splendid performance it is, with very good soloists and an excellent chorus that can handle Beethoven's outrageous writing without strain. The most impressive member of the team is Blomstedt himself, who shows wonderful control of the music and deep involvement in it. With Blomstedt I was struck with how well he balanced the qualities of control and frenzy. Wonderful music in a performance that held my attention unusually well.
