Notes & Reviews:

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
Staryk is simply spectacular. What he demands from his instrument(s) he demands in order to serve the needs of the music. For Staryk, Prokofieff's music is kind of like high winds at sea. Like a captain of a great ship he steers straight into dangerous waters. There is nothing safe about his playing, aside from the fact that it is always perfectly in tune, in rhythm, in balance, and appropriately expressive and resonant in all dynamics. Maybe that element of danger is what makes everything he plays so thrilling to hear. Staryk used the 1739 ex Papini del Gesu for his 1966 recording of the sonatas. I particularly like the way the instrument sounds in pizzicato, especially in the exchange in II with the right hand of the piano.
