Zelenka: Sonata No. 6 in C minor; Sonata No. 5 in F major; Sonata No. 4 in G minor / Ensemble Pasticcio Barocco

Notes & Reviews:

Jan Dismas Zelenka was born in 1679 in Lounovice in Bohemia. Between 1709 and 1711 (the dates are uncertain), he was engaged as a double bass player in the celebrated Dresden orchestra, one of the best orchestras in Europe at the time. The date of the composition of the Trio Sonatas is usually placed between 1720 and 1722. We do not know who first performed them, but since the Dresden orchestra included some of the best instrumentalists of the time, there is no lack of candidates: oboe players La Riche and Richter, bassoon players Bohme and Cadet, Pisendel or Volumier for the violin part of Sonata III, Weiss on the theorbo perhaps... Above all, one can imagine Zelenka himself playing the violone part, enjoying making music with friends...
