Notes & Reviews:
The legendary German Mozart & Strauss singer, Anneliese Rothenberger, totally clashed with her image of "charm and grace" in the scandalous role of Berg's Lulu. The 1968 Hamburg production of Berg's unfinished version was a sensational success for Rothenberger with critics and audience alike. The international revivals at the Montreal World's Fair and the Metropolitan Opera of the opera garnered crticial-acclaim.
Berg: Lulu is part of the Electrola Collection, a series that celebrates the historic record label, Electrola. Electrola was part of the EMI Classics unit in Germany best known for the rich catalogs, masterful artists and iconic gramophone trademark.

This is not only Rothenberger's production and all of the roles are taken powerfully, including a remarkable Schigolch from Kim Borg. If you can listen through the rough edges there are great dramatic rewards to be found in this at times brutal performance...the final three minutes will keep you awake at night.
