Vardelle Smith recorded two of the more fascinating pop soul tracks of the 1960s, "In My Room" and "Tar and Cement," later covered by the likes of Nancy Sinatra and Scott Walker. She released a single album and a handful of 45s between 1965 and 1967, and then abruptly left the music business. Raised in gospel, she became a preacher and social activist. This set collects 22 tracks remastered from the original Capitol Records master tapes, essentially capturing Smith's entire secular music career. ~ Steve Leggett
