Album Remarks & Appraisals:

Founded by Trinidadian-Canadian songwriter Drew Gonsalves, Kobo Town is named after the historic neighborhood in Port-of-Spain where calypso was born. Kobo Town takes the intricate wordplay of classic Caribbean music and runs it through a 21st Century filter. In the world of Kobo Town calypso, roots reggae, and acoustic instrumentation meet innovative production techniques, social commentary and indie rock attitude.

Cumbancha's latest world music find is Jumbie In The Jukebox , the band led by Trinidadian singer-songwriter Drew Gonsalves, who is now based in Canada. His album Jumbie In The Jukebox brings together rootsy Trinidadian calypso and soca, Jamaican reggae and modern dub with socially conscious lyrics.

Customer Review
Our local radio station 88.9 has been playing a song off the album called "Mr Monday" and I really liked it so I thought I'd give the album a listen and oh man it's great. Poppy and different it's a wonderful album all the way through and just in time for summer.

The Guardian (UK)
Cameos of characters such as vagrant Mr Monday and Joe the Paranoiac mix with wry social commentary, culminating in Tick Tock Goes the Clock, a poetic diatribe on the last of times that references TS Eliot, Derek Walcott and Gerard Manley Hopkins. An early album of the year.
