Notes & Reviews:

Kempff confirms his unique status in his 1962 Schwetzinger piano recital as he demonstrates his ability to connect a searching and dreamy pianistic approach to a wide-ranging repertoire. Unexpected, even for Kempff, is the program he selected for this recital: miniatures of Rameau and Couperin show him as the sonic acrobat and mystic colorist.

Rapt, warm phrasing animates Les trois mains from the Nouvelles Suites with Kempff's deftly defined but wholly pianistically orientated playing evoking all the 'mains' required...Maybe some might find Kempff a touch too artful and romanticised in this repertoire... but it's valuable now to have the chance to gauge his responses in this way.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
A brief Minuet by Handel returns us to some modest pedal and its sustaining abilities. This is continued in Mozart's 'Pastorale Variee' in B, K 209b, performed with a lightness of touch and bell-like clarity. Schubert's A-minor Sonata, D 845, finally takes us into the realm of full romanticism. Even here, however, we have Kempff's continued lapidary approach to pianism. The Andante is particularly lovely, and the music sparkles with carefully articulated transparency. Schubert's A-minor Sonata, D 845, finally takes us into the realm of full romanticism. Even here, however, we have Kempff's continued lapidary approach to pianism. The Andante is particularly lovely, and the music sparkles with carefully articulated transparency. Closing these joyful extractions from Kempff's recitals is a mellifluous performance of Schubert's Impromptu, D 899:3. The notes are mostly limited to Kempff and the festival. Fans of the pianist will definitely want this.

BBC Music Magazine, November 2013
This was a wonderful recital, allowing Kempff to reveal all sides of his artistry. There's no daintiness in his limpid Rameau and Couperin, and his Schubert is by turns mercurial and magisterial.
