Notes & Reviews:
The String Quartets of Edvard Grieg are quite unlike other string quartets. Its originality is so marked that it is easy to imagine it has no predecessor in the string quartet repertoire. This recording aims to bring into the open, for the first time, the fascinating details that link Grieg and Schubert.

Dena's Haydn Variations rank with the best, rich in detail and impeccable in ensemble. It alone is worth the rather high price. The Saint-Saens Beethoven Variations were composed one year after the Brahms (1874) and are new to me. The theme is from the Trio of the Minuet in Piano Sonata 18. It is given a superb performance. All elements of a truly great release are here - music, performances, sound, and notes
