Album Remarks & Appraisals:

Mark Isaacs premiered Children's Songs in 2012 at the Adelaide Festival in South Australia. In this pensive suite of short piano works, one of Australia's most accomplished composers and pianists plunges us into a part of ourselves that we may have thought we'd lost forever. World-renowned pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy remarked, "This wonderful cycle is highly inventive and inspiring, accessible to children and adults alike. Very enjoyable and touching!" To compose the suite Isaacs drew upon various influences, most notably "Kinderszenen," Schumann's set of solo piano pieces from 1838. The work also nods to Mozart, Bartók, Debussy, Bach, Percy Grainger, and Alban Berg.

Los Angeles Times
The work of an artist capable of matching the rich elements of classical composition with the flowing rhythms of jazz ... the product of a splendid musical mind.
