Notes & Reviews:
The Sofia National Opera Chorus has garnered acclaim the world over and is accompanied here by the Sofia Festival Orchestra. The recording also boasts a wealth of celebrated vocalists, including Boris Martinovich and Stefka Evstatieva. This recording of the best loved and Russian romantic opera, Prince Igor has been unavailable for quite some time.
American Record Guide, September/October 2013
When Borodin died in 1887, Prince Igor was the composer had started it 18 years earlier. The Rimsky- Glazounov Igor has pretty much remained the standard version, and it has been recorded several times. This reissue of a recording made in 1987 and first issued by Sony preserves quite a good performance with Martinovich an assertive, authoritative Igor and Ghiaurov an imposing Konchak. Kaludov is a smooth Vladimir, and the two leading ladies are fine, especially mezzo Milcheva. Tchakarov is a capable conductor. The sound is the big moments, like the indestructible Polovtsian Dances. The price is right.
