Notes & Reviews:

At eighteen years old, Conrad Tao has already accomplished more than classical musicians do in a lifetime. A world-class pianist, concert - level violinist and acclaimed composer (he received the ASCAP Young Composer award eight years in a row), Tao is also a Gilmore Young Artist prize winner, a U.S. Presidential Scholar and was the only classical musician on Forbes Magazine's 30 Under 30 list last year.

Fittingly for such an extraordinary unique young artist, Conrad's debut album voyages is anything but traditional. The recording features two of his own compositions (the four-movement Vestiges, plus Iridescence, a work for piano and iPad), Meredith Monk's Railroad (Travel Song), a selection of Rachmaninov preludes and Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit - one of the most difficult works in the piano repertoire.

Conrad describes the album as being about "movement at its most undefined and indirect - not getting from point A to point B, but all that happens between the two points... the way in which life and the passage of time - like the dream images of Vestiges and Gaspard - don't progress linearly, but rather are fraught with detours and lateral shifts. And yet through it all, when we look back, we are somewhere different from where we started."

The album release date of June 11th will also coincide with the unPlay festival, a three-day event (June 11-13) conceived and curated by Conrad which will featured performances by him and a variety of contemporary musicians and composers in Brooklyn's powerhouse Arena. Tao will also play a full showcase performance of the album repertoire on May 21st New York City club (Le) Poisson Rouge.

As the San Francisco Chronicle wrote, "It would be silly to advise keeping an eye out for Conrad Tao, or to suggest that this young man is going places. He's already there, and he's only going to get better."

New York Magazine
Conrad is the kind of musician who is shaping the future of music.

International Record Review, September 2013
Tao brings a fresh vitality and terrific momentum to [Gaspard]...this is a thoroughly enjoyable and consistently impressive recording from Tao, blending old with new, conventional with less conventional...There is more than sufficient variety to hold the interest and I must say Tao's compositions are really growing on me.
