Notes & Reviews:

BMOP/sound presents five works of the American master Jacob Druckman in a disc that exhibits the award-winning Boston Modern Orchestra Project and conductor Gil Rose in challenging and exciting performances. Soprano Lucy Shelton shines on the title track, which features enchanting texts spanning centuries and languages around such themes as the female psyche and the legend of Medea. Nor Spell Nor Charm, a memorial for the composer's friend mezzo Jan DeGaetani, takes its inspiration from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Also included are That Quickening Pulse, a heart-pounding orchestral showpiece, and two works realized from 17th-century operas: Delizie Contente che l'Alme Beate (from Il Giasone by Cavalli) and Suite from Médée (from Médée by Charpentier), arranged by Druckman.
