Notes & Reviews:

A collection of organ pieces from the Halberstadt district in Germany featuring the composers J.S. Bach, Michael Praetorius, Oliver Messiaen, John Cage, and others.

This new CD presents an interesting overview of the rich organ landscape of Halberstadt (Saxony-Anhalt), a most important town for the history of organ building. Nicolaus Faber's large 1361 organ was the largest in the world in these times! The program contains a wide spectrum of organ music, from Adam Ileborgh (15th century) to Hans Otte (1992), as well as improvisations by Claus-Erhard Heinrich (Halberstadt Cathedral organist).
