Notes & Reviews:

Marianne Piketty and Laurent Cabasso present two beautiful and infrequently performed sonatas by French composers of the early 20th century.

Marianne Piketty is joined by Laurent Cabasso to perform two beautiful sonatas by early 20th century French composers. Her recordings for Maguelone, including Ysaÿe's sonatas for solo violin, and the violin and piano sonatas by Lekeu have already garnered unanimous acclaim from the critics.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
Piketty and Cabasso are both French. Piketty and Cabasso don't need to interpret the Pierné Sonata at all. It just seems to flow, sing, dance, and fly the way it should. The recording engineers allow the bright piano part to share space with the violin (sometimes surrounding it and embracing it), so the balances are natural. This is the way the piece sounds under the ear when it is played, and these wonderful musicians clearly take a great deal of pleasure from letting the piece sound at its most glorious. There are scores of recordings of the Lekeu by generations of great violinists (starting with Ysaye).
