Notes & Reviews:

Expedition Audio Recommended
The chamber music here is of a rather light nature, exposing more the composer's French side. The audio sample provided is the fourth and final movement of the Sérénade No. 1, Op. 82: Rondo Alla breve. Unfailingly sunny and beautiful, the program provides an hour of delightful music. Anyone drawn to chamber music with flute will thoroughly enjoy this. ... read more ...

The rediscovery of the three Sérénades for flute and strings by the Franco-German Romantic Gouvy (1819 - 98), 2 of them commissioned by the Philharmonic Club of NY brings a welcome expansion to the repertoire of 19th century chamber music for flute. Gouvy's expert craftsmanship has not had the attention his warm-hearted music deserves.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
Gouvy commonly recycled and reworked music, and some of this is recycled music. These serenades have equal measures of energy, gravity, and charm. Flutist Markus Bronnimann has a clear, penetrating sound. He and the strings or piano - whichever the case may be - are balanced well. It is very satisfying. If this release doesn't make it onto my Best of Year list, you should know right now that it was very close. If you care to find out what you've been missing, this is a fine place to begin.
