Notes & Reviews:

You never know where you have Riisager: he is the man of surprises and caprices, wrote a Danish newspaper after the first performance of Knudåge Riisager's Symphony No. 3 in 1932. Indeed, this album presents a collection of highly original and imaginative orchestral works by Riisager from the 1920s and 30s, including the euphoric Futurist tribute to the new aeroplanes T-DOXC - all in world premiere recordings by Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and conductor Bo Holten.

American Record Guide, March/April 2014
In the Second Symphony the tonal structure and harmony are built from the top down to the point where one might wonder if Riisager scores for cellos and basses. The better organized Third Symphony (1935) opens with Coplandesque festivity plus suggestions of Gould and Harris. The Concerto for Orchestra comes from a period when Riisager turned his attention to Baroque models and neoclassical Stravinsky. Riisager's orchestral T-DOXC (Poeme Mecanique, 1926) depicts a Japanese airplane called a Jabiru T-DOXC. Primavera (1934) is a perky portrait of Spring with bright string writing, bird calls, festivity, some heraldic figures, and touches of Roy Harris. Riisager's music is in its own way adventurous. The attractions are bright or silvery colors, and high spirits. I like aspects of both symphonies. I prefer the symphones of the Americans I've cited (and others) to Riisager's. Primavera is appealing. Rollum-Larsen's notes are nicely detailed about the composer and the music.
