Notes & Reviews:

Richard Strauss's legendary Joseph legende is complemented by the love scene from Feuersnot and the early work Festmarsch. All are performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Neeme Järvi, who in 2012 celebrated his thirty-year recording career with Chandos Records.

Sunday Times, 16th June 2013
This is mature Strauss, brilliantly orchestrated in his glittering Frau ohne Schatten vein. Jarvi (pictured above) and the RSNO make the strongest possible case for a neglected work, and their make weights...are rare collectibles for avid Straussians.

The Guardian, 4th July 2013
He offers a considered, low-key interpretation, ultra-refined in detail, scrupulously played, and particularly good when it comes to Strauss's depiction - sometimes described as awkward - of Joseph's chaste nobility.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
They are also worthwhile. It's some of the most sumptuous music Strauss ever wrote and can always be longer. The Festival March, Strauss's Opus 1, is a fine piece of craft from a 12-year old. The trio has not only a good melody, but a good counter-melody, pointing to Strauss the future master of counterpoint. It's a buyers market for Joseph; all the available recordings are excellent. Jarvi's, at 58 minutes, is one of the fastest.
