Notes & Reviews:
Dalliance, deceit and dastardly blackmail are all in the air at the rococo palace of Versailles, where Schierbeck's only opera Fete galante unfolds its colorful plot. The opera maintains an exquisite balance between the lyrical and the comic. This recording brings new life to his tuneful music with a strong Nordic cast in front of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
American Record Guide, March/April 2014
This June 2012 studio performance makes a strong case for the opera. It produces an energy that sweeps the music along, coupled with a gentle, smiling lyricism. The comic characters played by Skovhus and Pellegrini are a delight and a strong contrast to the sophisticated, worldly-wise Rene of Weinius and the delicate simplicity of the radiant voice of Beck's Suzon. Fete Galante is pretty enjoyable. The orchestra and the orchestration are as ear catching as the singers. German-English libretto included.
