Notes & Reviews:

Das Fuerstenkind (The Prince's Child) has always been an "insider's tip" in Lehár's oeuvre, and the composer himself regarded this robbers' tale from Greece premiered in 1909 as one of his best works. It was also his problem child because it never became a sensational success. The reason may have been due to the works blurring of boundaries between opera and operetta.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
The singers on this recording fill the bill nicely. As the robber Stavros, Matthias Klink sings with a clear, bright tenor. He is joined in duets by American soprano Mary Mills, whose full, rich lyric soprano makes her a fine Mary- Ann. The orchestral accompaniments are first rate. The booklet hints that conductor Ulf Schirmer is working on a Lehar cycle; his caring for this music shows in the fine performance. This operetta deserves revival - maybe instead of another production of Merry Widow. The booklet contains good information on the artists and the work.

MusicWeb International, 19th February 2014
Lehár collectors will need no advocacy from me. They can safely buy this well-engineered live recording. Also those only mildly sympathetic to Lehár will find things to enjoy...If nothing else here attracts the Lehár-recalcitrant, the two sopranos will offer deep satisfaction.
