Notes & Reviews:

NOVA is the 27th edition of the acclaimed Society of Composers, Inc. CD Series and the 3rd SCI release on Navona. This entry features chamber works by 8 composers representing the highest quality work in a variety of compositional styles. On-disc enhanced content includes extended liner notes and study scores.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
Metaphors by Phillip Schroeder is three movements of spoken word, clarinet, and electric bass. The vocal delivery is slow, with careful enunciation of each syllable. Vera Ivanova's Aftertouch includes several separate lines heard at once that often involve different senses of motion. Leonard Mark Lewis's 3 Piano Etudes is a high point of the program. II has the feeling of a 'Gymnopedie' with its slower tempo and accented grace notes. Nova, as a program, is a mixed bag. The small ensembles used offer chances for interesting timbral interactions.
